SGZip loopback driver (sgloop.o) -------------------------------- Module modified from the cloop module by Michael Cohen (scudette@users.sourceforge.net) (C) 2004. This driver allow you to mount sgzipped images by proving a kernel module to support the sgzip format. To install: make create a device node if you dont have dev fs: mknod /dev/sgloop b 241 0 This will produce a sgloop.o module. Load the modules as root: insmod ./sgloop.o file=/path/to/sgzip/file.sgz now you may mount it: mount -t ext2 /dev/sgloop /mnt/point This module is heavily borrowed from the standard cloop distribution. The cloop format is very similar to sgzip, but the indexes are kept the start of the file, which forces the compressor to use a lot of memory to keep the entire image in virtual memory before an index can be created. This makes cloop unsuitable for forensic images. Other than this exception, the following cloop documentation will apply to sgloop as well. Use "-" as filename to read data from stdin, as in: mkisofs -r datadir | create_compressed_fs - 65536 > datadir.iso.compressed Mounting a compressed image (see above for device creation): insmod cloop.o file=/path/to/compressed/image mount -o ro -t whatever /dev/cloop /mnt/compressed Starting from cloop version 1.0, setting of cloop compressed files via losetup /dev/cloop1 /path/to/file is possible. cloop 1.0 uses 64bit pointers instead of 32bit, so cloop files are no longer limited to <= 4GB (uncompressed size).
